Dr Cheney currently consults three days per week.
Professional Background / Experience
Medical degree gained from Monash University.

Specialist Psychiatry training and subspecialty child/adolescent training undertaken at Alfred Health. 

Has worked across public and private mental health settings, including inpatient, outpatient and community services.

Has held roles within multidisciplinary youth mental health teams, working with infants, children, adolescents and their families across a broad range of presentations.

Provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment and ongoing management within private practice.

Professional Interests
Dr Cheney has a particular interest in infant, child, adolescent and youth mental health.

She provides thorough developmental and psychiatric assessments and works collaboratively with young people and their families to develop clear formulations and individually tailored treatment plans.

Dr Cheney is particularly focused on developmentally informed care, recognising the broader family, academic and social context in which young people grow and thrive.

She commonly assesses and provide management recommendations for:
  • Anxiety disorders (including generalised anxiety, social anxiety, panic, and OCD)
  • Mood disorders (including depression, bipolar disorder and mood instability)
  • Psychosis 
  • Personality development and emerging personality difficulties, particularly where these affect emotional regulation, identity, or relationships
  • Difficulties within family relationships, including between parents
  • ADHD
