Professional Background / Experience
  • Completed Bachelor of Science (Pharmacology / Human Pathology) at Monash University in 2008.
  • Completed Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Monash University in 2013.
  • Internship and pre-specialisation practice at Monash Health in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Psychiatry from 2014 to 2017.
  • Specialist Psychiatric training at Monash Health, Alfred Health and Forensicare from 2018 to 2023, gaining a certificate in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry alongside fellowship.
  • Masters of Psychiatry completed at Melbourne University in 2021.
  • Developed an interest in Perinatal Psychiatry working at the Perinatal and Infant Inpatient Unit and Parent-Infant Mental Health Initiative at Monash Health in 2020, and helped develop the Clayton Antenatal Psychiatric Assessment Clinic as the Perinatal Liaison Advanced Trainee at Monash Health in 2021.
  • Began working as a consultant psychiatrist at Alfred Health in 2023, before joining the team at NEST.
Professional Interests
  • Perinatal Psychiatry, with a particular interest in developing a shared understanding of how intergenerational bonding and attachment can both positively and negatively impact our own parenting experience.
  • Supporting difficult transitions to parenthood, conception challenges, pregnancy losses and grief.
  • Risks and benefits of medications and other exposures in pre-conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding. 
Personal Interests Outside of Work
Outside of work, Michael spends his time with his wife, daughter and their extended family. He enjoys gardening, film, literature, running, cycling, and DIY home improvement projects.
