Professional Background/Experience:
Dr Sophie White is a clinical psychologist with doctoral-level training. She completed a psychology bachelor’s (honours) degree at Monash University followed by a doctorate in clinical psychology at Deakin University. She is currently completing a graduate diploma in forensic psychology at Swinburne University. She has practiced in both public and private settings, working with a diverse range clients and mental health challenges. She has also held academic positions at both Deakin University and Swinburne University. Sophie has undertaken further training in a range of therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, and EMDR. She is credentialed in eating disorder mental health treatment through the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders (ANZAED) and perinatal mental health through the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE). Sophie engages in regular clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, and personal therapy to ensure application of best-practice standards.
Professional Interests:
Sophie has a collaborative and approachable style that balances compassionate acceptance with therapeutic challenge. She has a particular interest in working with people who are experiencing mental health challenges during the perinatal period. Sophie has particular experience working with people with eating disorders and disordered eating, and she is interested in the intersection between body image and the transition into pregnancy and/or parenthood. Sophie also has skills working with postpartum psychosis, severe mood episodes, and OCD, informed by a combination of her clinical expertise and lived experience. Sophie flexibly adapts and integrates evidence-based therapeutic techniques to meet individual client needs, including those relating to cultural, sexual, and gender identities. She applies a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed approach when working with all clients.
